Delaware's PSC explains that competitive electric choice is currently available to Delmarva Power customers for electricity. The utility continues distribution. A Delaware address alone therefore does not establish that every business account or fuel can use the same shopping route.
Confirm the serving utility first
Locate the distribution company and rate class on the business statement. If the account is served by a municipal or cooperative system, ask that provider about its rules rather than assuming the Delmarva choice arrangement applies. Identify who has authority to make a supply decision for a leased premises, particularly when the landlord holds the account.
The PSC distinguishes a certified supplier from one actively offering service. A supplier's presence on a regulatory list is an important identity check, but it does not guarantee that the supplier currently serves this utility, business class or usage level. Request a written proposal for the actual account.
Read the supply section and the contract together
Delmarva customers selecting third-party supply still have utility distribution service. Identify which bill lines are supply, which are delivery and whether any adjustments relate to a prior period. The current supplier and price schedule should agree with the supporting contract or a documented change.
For a small service business, separate monthly supplier fees can materially affect a simple usage-price comparison. Confirm whether a quoted price already incorporates such a fee. Count the component once. Do not include the utility distribution cost as an avoidable supplier fee unless the proposed comparison specifically and correctly accounts for it on both sides.
Prepare for an account-specific offer
Collect annual kWh, twelve monthly quantities, the current term end date and the service class. Note whether an equipment addition or move changes the business's expected usage. Ask the prospective supplier how the offer is conditioned on usage, payment terms or start date.
For a multi-tenant property, identify the exact meter and payer before calling an apparent saving an owner benefit. A cheaper tenant-paid supply account may benefit the tenant without reducing the property owner's operating expense. The bill checker does not allocate benefits under leases.
Hypothetical rate and fee comparison
Suppose a business has 72,000 annual kWh. A 0.6¢ per kWh difference between equivalent supply prices creates $432 of annual modeled difference. If the offered agreement adds a separate $25 monthly fee where the current agreement has none, $300 of that difference is absorbed by the fee, leaving $132 before switching costs.
That example does not include delivery, taxes or demand, and it is not an available Delaware offer. It shows why the input definition and fee schedule should accompany a displayed result. A cancellation amount could further change the first-year decision.
Natural gas needs its own verification
The PSC electric-choice page does not establish a general retail gas-switching opportunity. A business gas account requires its own utility and tariff review. Where transportation or another commercial arrangement is proposed, obtain the eligibility requirements and a complete charge definition in writing.
Do not use a generic statewide list to authorize a change. The appropriate next step is to verify the actual service arrangement, then compare equivalent costs and ask specific questions about the parts that remain uncertain.
Use the result as a starting point
Once the current and offered components match, use the business bill checker to show the arithmetic. It holds entered prices constant, does not fetch live offers, and does not independently calculate utility demand, delivery or tariff charges. Use the optional twelve-month usage series when one month is unrepresentative.
For an account question, send your business, state, utility and the issue through the first-party review form. Keep bills and account identifiers out of the initial message; arrange document sharing after connecting. A listing in this guide is not a supplier-availability guarantee.
